HE Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, conducted a field visit to Union Coop to assess the stability of commodity prices and the availability of essential goods in sufficient quantities to meet consumer demand ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
The visit aligns with the Ministry of Economy’s ongoing efforts to ensure cooperatives comply with consumer protection regulations and pricing policies, particularly the new pricing policy covering nine essential consumer goods: cooking oil, eggs, dairy products, rice, sugar, poultry, legumes, bread, and wheat. Under Cabinet Resolution No. 120 of 2022, the prices of these items cannot be increased without prior approval from the Ministry.
During the tour, His Excellency inspected various sections within Union Coop, closely examining the availability of essential goods, particularly those in high demand during the holy month. He also engaged with shoppers to gather their feedback on price stability within the cooperative.
Mr. Mohamed Al Hashemi, CEO of Union Coop, reaffirmed the cooperative’s commitment to offering essential products at competitive prices in accordance with the applicable laws, regulations, and standards. He also highlighted Union Coop’s plans to introduce seasonal discounts during Ramadan to support consumers.
He further emphasized the cooperative’s ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Economy to ensure the availability of goods at fair prices, strengthen trust between traders and consumers, and uphold the nation’s vision for consumer protection and market stability.
The visit underscored the positive cooperation between the Ministry and Union Coop in enhancing the continuous exchange of information and data on essential consumer goods, ensuring their sustainable availability, and offering attractive discounts and promotions in the lead-up to Ramadan.
