Dubai, UAE:

Union Coop and Dubai Health Authority organized their signature breast awareness campaign under the name ‘Dubai Pink Ride’ for the sixth year in a row. This annual show of solidarity towards breast cancer fighters was held via bicycle and motorcycle procession.

Worldwide, October month is celebrated as Breast Cancer Awareness month with a clear message that ‘early detection and diagnosis can help fight it’. Breast Cancer still remains one of the primary causes of death among women. Dubai Pink Ride coincided with the ‘Dubai Fitness Challenge’ and this year’s edition saw an incredible turnout, reaching 3, 000 participants, compared to 2, 000 last year. This tremendous turnout reflects the true spirit of Dubai with respect to the Dubai Pink Ride initiative and towards the Dubai Fitness Challenge launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Executive Council.

With respect to the initiative, Mr. Yaqoob Al Balooshi, Fresh Category Trade Dept. Manager, Union Coop said “Dubai Pink Ride seeks to raise awareness about breast cancer, and overall health in general. It highlights the importance of early detection of the disease, which leads to early prediction and diminishes the personal and social impact of the disease at an early stage.”

Al Balooshi adds, “ For the sixth year in a row, Union Coop is Collaborating with DHA to organize such an effective event, reflecting its commitment towards public health and strengthens our effort to build a healthy and safe environment by spreading knowledge and awareness among members of society.”

For his part, Salim Mohammed bin Lahej, Head of the Community and Humanitarian Services Office at DHA, said “Awareness campaigns and events like this help highlight the importance of screening and early detection of Breast Cancer in women. I would like to encourage members of the society to take these tests and abolish the taboo associated with breast cancer, resulting in a healthier and happier society.”

The 15km-journey was flagged off at the Jumeirah Mosque and ended at the Jumeirah Beach Park.
