This sponsorship supports and sponsors humanitarian initiatives and helps to continue its excellence and leadership in the implementation of community responsibility. The initiative primarily focusses on feeding the needy, especially during Suhoor (a meal eaten before fajr, or dawn) and Iftar (meal eaten to break the fast) and avoid wastage.
This move comes as a response to the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and ruler of Dubai, in supporting and sponsoring the humanitarian initiatives of corporate social responsibility.
A mutual understanding was established between Union Coop and Cotopia Community Responsibility Foundation, to sponsor the kind initiative, the second edition. This initiative will be held in the emirate of Dubai and will aim to spread the habit of avoiding the wastage of food during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Mr. Suhail Al Bastaki, Director of Happiness and Marketing Department and Mr. Yousef Al Obaidli, Chief Executive Officer, representing the Cotopia Foundation. The ceremony was held in the presence of officials from both the entities.
Expressing his views on the initiative and the true motive behind, Mr. Suhail Al Bastaki said, “This is one of the noble initiatives of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which teaches us not to waste food during the holy month of Ramadan. Spreading such awareness and teaching to a maximum number of people is a community responsibility that everyone should abide by, as we all have a contribution to make towards building a sustainable environment and preservation of resources for future generation as well.”
Mr. Yousef Al Obaidli, CEO of the Cotopia Community Responsibility Foundation, said: “What distinguishes this initiative from other conservation initiatives is that it aims to educate children primarily about food wastage. Secondly, it promotes the donation of meals to the needy.”
