Strengthening Corporate Social Responsibility during the Year of Zayed Ministry of Community Development and the Union Coop Sign MoU Entities Cooperate to Provide Maintenance for Elderly Houses

United Arab Emirates, Dubai, febraury 1st , 2018:

The Ministry of Community Development and Union Coop, the largest cooperative in the UAE, have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at supporting a number of elderly people through financing maintainance for their homes.

The agreement was signed by His Excellency Naji Al-Hai, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Sector at the Ministry of Community Development and Mr. Hareb Mohammed Bin Thani, Director of Operations Sector in Union Coop in the presence of number of staff members from both sides.

Falling within the framework of both sides’ efforts to recognize the Year of Zayed, The MoU aims to stimulate the community partnership between the two sides.

“The memorandum of understanding was signed by the Ministry of Community Development and Union Coop, in line with the vision of the Ministry and the 2021 Vision. It aims to achieve a decent life for the people of the UAE, ensure the provision of high quality social services, galvanizing the community partnership between the various sectors in the country and consolidating the role they play in social responsibility,” His Excellency Naji Al-Hai said. “We look forward to more partnerships and initiatives during the Year of Zayed to support of social work and community development. This vision is inspired by the believes and values that late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has established in community.”

Through collaboration with our partners, we aim to promote the concepts of sustainable support for Emirati families, with effective and supportive initiatives that move from the notion of social welfare to social development.

Mohammed Hareb Bin Thani, Director of Operations Sector, Union Coop, said: “Union Coop cooperates with the Ministry of Community Development to drive social development process by helping community members through the maintenance of the houses of the needy. This would promote social solidarity as well as cooperation between the two sectors to enhance our society.”

He also added: “Union Coop is keen to exercise its positive social role towards society, in addition to contributing to the achievement of the Federal Government’s vision and strategy. It aims at assuring decent living conditions and the wellbeing of people, ensuring the provision of high quality social services, facilitating access to government services and activating the strategic partnership between federal and local government agencies and Private sector. This also aims to improve the services provided to the public by activating community participation and joint cooperation between these entites.”

It is worth mentioning that during the year 2017, the Ministry of Community Development and The Union Coop signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support the ‘Hydroponic Agriculture Project’. The project aims to develop the capacities and skills of ‘people of determination’ in project management and life skills so to enhance their independance.
