admin|November 22, 2017

Union Coop, the largest cooperative in the UAE, has signed two memoranda of understanding with Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC). The first MOU aims to implementing the Women Empowerment Program, while the second focuses on supporting the Aquaculture Project.

This initiative is inspired by the government’s strategy and vision for 2021 which aims at achieving good life and luxury for people, ensuring the availability of high-quality social services, facilitating access to government services, and revitalizing the strategic partnership between the federal government entities, local entities, and the private sector in order to improve the services provided to the public.

Both agreements were signed by Suhail Al Bastaki, Director of the Happiness and Marketing Department at Union Coop on behalf of Union Coop CEO, and by Her Excellency Afra Al Basti, Director-General of the DFWAC.

Commenting on this initiative, Suhail Al Bastaki said: “the sum provided by Union Coop to support both MoUs amounts to AED 406,000, with AED 243,000 going to support the Women Empowerment Program, and AED 163,000 going to support the Aquaculture Project. This reflects Union Coop’s commitment to supporting innovative projects that contribute to building sustainable society.”

For her part, Her Excellency Afra Al Basti said: “We value the prominent role of Union Coop in supporting the efforts of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children towards strengthening the stability and cohesion of society. The support provided will contribute to bringing new hope to many victims of violence among women and provide care and protection for them. We hope that this cooperation is just the beginning of a wider cooperation in the near future.”

The Women Empowerment Program MoU aims at contributing to rehabilitating abused women and facilitate their reintegration into society by developing their skills and training them on new ones. It also aims at carrying out various programs to train cases supported by Union Coop.

The Aquaculture Project MoU aims at supporting this project and developing the skills of the cases supported by the establishment in the fields of project management and applied life skills like sales and purchases. It also aims at achieving independence, developing self-confidence, empowering and rehabilitating, and integrating women into society. This would help create a pattern of knowledge, intellect, value, and behavior that contributes to overall social development.
