Union Co-op, the largest cooperative in the UAE, has announced its promotional campaigns in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan, with price reductions of up to 75% on over two thousand basic commodities. The Co-op highlighted that its campaigns come in line with its annual efforts to spread the spirit of good doing and ease the costs on consumers by availing high quality commodities at competitive prices, noting that it has allocated a budget of AED 30M for this noble purpose.

The announcement came in a press conference held by union coop on Wednesday May 10th at the Union coop’s head office at Al Aweer. The press conference was attended by HE Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Consumer Protection at the Ministry of Economy; Mr. Harib Mohammed bin Thani, Director of Operations division , representing the CEO of Union Coop ; Mr. Suhail Al Bastaki, Director of Happiness and Marketing department ; and a number of media representatives and union coop officials .

Commenting on this, Mr. Harib Mohammed bin Thani, Director of Operations division at Union Coop, said: “This step comes in line with our quest for realizing consumer happiness, as we launch 5 promotional campaigns compared to 3 last Ramadan, representing a 76% increase in campaign number and 40% increase in budget over last year’s AED 18M. Our goal has always been to ease the financial burden on all citizens and residents of the UAE, and instill the spirit of giving and good doing in the coop.”

2000 Commodities
Bin Thani noted that “the campaigns will cover around 2000 basic Ramadan commodities, with discounts of up to 75%.” He also highlighted that the promotions will be launched before the holy month, inviting consumers to shop days ahead to avoid crowding and inconvenience on the first day of fasting, and allocate their precious time to observing the rituals of this holy season. He also revealed that the Co-op has concluded all preparations and provisioning processes and contracts, making sure all the basic needs of the consumers are available in abundance at all its outlets.

On the main commodities covered by the campaigns, Bin Thani highlighted rice, oil, poultry, meat, canned food, and various other Ramadan commodities.

“Open Baskets”
Bin Thani also noted that the success of the open basket campaign in the past years has motivated the Coop to relaunch this year. Compared to 1000 commodities last year, Bin Thani said, the open basket will include 2000 commodities this year. “This 100% increase over last year allows shoppers to select their own baskets regardless to price or number of goods, which enhances our policy in consumer happiness, especially with the diversified communities that live in Dubai, and approach the coop for their shopping needs.”
