The much awaited ‘talk-of-the-month’ ends in a grand fashion… with a lot of smiles

Retail Pioneer ‘Union Coop’ is pretty serious when it comes to Employee Happiness Initiatives both in form of formal and casual events. This month saw a series of sporting events organized to treat the employees to a healthy lesson of sportsmanship.

It all started with Union Coop’s Human Resources and Emiratization department – ‘Employee Happiness Unit’ organizing the Union Coop Sports Championship 2018 for its employees, with 7 different games. The aim of organizing such a sporting event was to engage as many employees as possible and to inspire them to adopt sports as a part of their life.

The tournament, which started on 23rd of September, was organized at the staff accommodation in Muhaisnah, with the participation of more than 520 players, who formed 99 teams from different divisions and departments. The championship tournament included games of football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, Carom, and Baby foot.

Ending on a Winning note were the following teams in their respective game:

·       Cricket – Head Office

·       Volleyball (Female) –  Al Wasl Branch.

·       Volleyball (Male) – Um Suqeim Branch.

·       Basketball (Female) – Barsha Branch.

·       Basketball (Male) – Mirdif Branch.

·       Football (Male) – Staff Accommodation

·       Ping Pong (Female) –  Charito Sale Cenidoza – Mamzar Branch.

·       Ping Pong (Male) –  Said Saber Said Mohamed– Mirdif Branch.

·       Baby Foot (Male) – Ahmad Barghouthi & 248971– Ahmad Kh. T. Albakar– Head Office.  

·       Carom (Female) – Um Suqeim Branch.

·       Carom (Male) – Um Suqeim Branch.

About the overall sporting event, Mr. Ahmed Bin Kenaid, Director of Human Resources and Emiratization said, “It’s a great feeling when our employees are happy with our efforts. It takes a great deal of planning to put together these many games and motivate our employees to compete against each other. It’s not only about competition or prizes, but it’s more about developing a sense of camaraderie among the employees, which ultimately is reflected in their work performance and the level of service they offer to our valuable consumers.”

The Football finale was followed by the awarding ceremony, lots of celebrations and dinner.
